MARK McConnell, Treasurer

I started running in 1968 after joining the Soquel High School track team in the spring of my freshman year. I have been a part of the Santa Cruz running community since then. Highlights of my career:

• Set Soquel HS 2-mile record in 1971 with time of 9:14.4

• Later became 8-time varsity letterman at Stanford University (4 letters in cross country, 4 in track) as well as cross country team captain my last two years.
  
• Won the second Wharf to Wharf Race in 1974 after finishing 2nd place in inaugural WTW in 1973.
  
• Started coaching at Soquel HS in 1979 and served as head cross country and track coach for about 25 years. Also served as Soquel athletic director for 8 years. Taught math at Soquel for 33 years.
  
• Served as Wharf to Wharf race director in late 1970’s and early 80’s.
  
• Founded SCTC in late 80’s along with three other WTW board members (Howard Marcus, Kirby Nicol and Ken Thomas)
  
• Currently serve as board member/treasurer of both WTW and SCTC as well as the timer/scorer for SCTC and other events.
